I was a part of a team of 6 designers in the project management team. Initially, I held the position of Senior Designer, but within six months, I was promoted to Lead Designer and managed 8 designers from another departments. Over the course of two years, we took the app to an entirely new level

About

Mobile bank for entrepreneurs from the SMB department of VTB bank, a second Russian commercial bank

Challenge

Our objective was to design a mobile app which could provide business owners with our banking services, create a modern visual style, and implement functionality previously unavailable to mobile users

CUI Design-System

Creating a design system was one of the main tasks at VTB. When I started working there, we had a small UI kit with basic elements. Over the course of several months, we turned it into a comprehensive and user-friendly design system that was used by about 30 people all over the company. I called it CUI

Pages components

Realising that many screens were repeated, I created separate components for the most frequently used screens. Thanks to this, designers could add them to their scenarios directly from their files through assets

Graphic

Icons and illustrations are always used everywhere. Therefore, it was extremely important to establish their rules and gather them from various files into a single file with clear naming conventions for easy search

Automatisation

Together with the developers, we created a script that helped to automatically export icons (700+), illustrations, rasters, text and color styles to the code. To do this, we only needed to press one button. This added flexibility and accelerated the process of updating the library

SandBox

We regularly faced the problem that components did not work as they should, since in addition to our internal team of developers, we also worked with developers from other departments

To address this issue, we created an application where anyone in the company could see how a particular component, icon or style works, which eliminated this problem

CustDev

It's well-known that without understanding the users' needs it's very difficult to meet their expectations, so we often organized CustDevs. From them, we learned a lot of insights and regularly made adjustments to what seemed like perfect flows

Self-employed

In Russia, there are over 3.5 million self-employed individuals, some of whom work as individual entrepreneurs. This is a huge part of the market. For them, we created a personal account for convenient registration of receipts and payment of taxes directly in the application. This was the largest product of VTB that was personally designed by me

Product design

I worked on creating numerous products within the VTB ecosystem, such as Financial Analytics, Payroll Service, QR payments, and Authorization

In addition, I conducted reviews for other teams, and under my leadership, services such as Deposits, Acquiring, Counterparties, and others were created

Marketing engagement

We were interested in increasing customer loyalty. That's why we created a Telegram channel where we regularly published news and posts on various topics. We talked about what's new in the app, where to go in Moscow, how to develop a personal brand, and much more

Education

Together with our team, we launched a course for UX/UI designers, which can still be found online with our tips and life hacks on working with mobile applications

Additionally, we, together with an art director, participated in lectures for VTB employees as part of an internal training course

App Rating

Everyone knows how difficult it is to move an audience from an old application to a new one. The application rating was not the highest. People who encountered problems went to write complaints in the Store, and good reviews were simply not left

After a meticulous analysis, I proposed a rating request system, which allowed us to increase the application rating by more than 1.5 points in just 2 months

Outcomes

The VTB mobile application has become one of the market leaders in its field. We had over 100,000 active users who significantly simplified their business-related tasks with it

Thanks to the app, it was possible to open a deposit on the way to work, sign a payment order via Wi-Fi on a plane, or open a new account while on vacation in Cuba. I am proud of our product and the people who helped create it
